Examples of Car Shows and Club Participation
in Them

The "British
Field Day" was held at Portland International Raceway over the Labor Day weekend in Portland, Oregon...
With an eleven hour drive each way,
club attendees can attest that it had to be well worth it - and they say it was.
Club member Gene deReulle only saw one other British car on
the way up, so he presumed there was going to be a minimal turnout. As usual, presumption doesn't pay off, he said...

The total paid registration came out to over 850 cars, including 71 MGA's, over 200 MGB's,
and over 100 Land Rovers, to name a few. There were Triumphs, Lotuses (or is that Loti?), Jags, Rollers (as the British
say)… anything you can think of.
The frosting
on the cake?? Vintage racing on the Portland International Raceway. The
PIR is a very tight challenging track and is one of the prettiest in the USA. All the historic clubs hold meetings there, and
the American LeMans series and the Rolex series all run there. There were small bore, big bore, and 11 ex-CanAm racers
– when those fired up, the ground shook.

Awards? Well, our President for Life, Jim Phelps, won his class with Miss
Daisy, his 58 Magnette. Gene deRuelle
got a Third Place with his 59 MGA - which, considering
the competition, was proudly accepted. First place and Best of Show, was won by a magnificent Twin Cam.
There was one
marvelous attraction, unlike any he has ever seen at any show. There was a corner, under some pretty pepper trees, called
Kimber Motors. They had an example of almost every MG ever brought to the U.S.: PA, VA, TC, TD, TF, MGA. MGB, MGC, Y, they were all on display with signs reading "Bargain of the Day,” “Creampuff,”
etc. – all in good fun and so very well done.
Gene reports that
he has never had a better time at an event and gives a "hats off" to the organizers. Gene says if it wasn't so far away, he'd go every Labor Day.
